Black Sea - Danube Association for Research and Development (BDCA) is an independent non-profit research organisation - a grouping of research institutions, consultancy, SMEs, and individuals engaged in research, training, engineering and advisory activities. BDCA operates in the field of sustainable use and development of water resources, protection of people and coastal infrastructure from floods and other natural disasters, adaptation to climate change, environmental protection, in the Black Sea Coastal zone and Lower Danube.

The mission of BDCA is to strengthen the connection between research and business, by supporting scientific research with a direct focus on industry, as well as through advanced training and upgrading the qualifications of researchers and experts from the public and private sectors.

BDCA strives to be an attractive center for experts, researchers, and professors, while at the same time it employs its own staff of full-time and part-time researchers and experts to carry out scientific and practical research, innovations, and training in the field of hydro-meteorological risk management, Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), blue economy, renewable energies, restoration and protection of the environmental.

BDCA uses and provides specialized databases and GIS solutions, numerical models and simulation software for forecasting the processes in the coastal zone, rivers, and inland water bodies, as well as the relevant expertise in these areas. BDCA works in close cooperation with the Institute of Fish Resources (IFR - Varna), the Center for Hydro- and Aerodynamics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BSHC), the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) - Sofia, and other leading research and innovation organizations in Bulgaria.
